How to Plan Your Wedding Reception Floor Plan

So many details of your wedding to get right! One you might not have thought of is the layout of your reception floor plan.

As wedding expert Layne Povey told Brides, “Strategic layout is essential to the success and flow of your event.”

“Ensuring that you have enough space between tables for both guest comfort and services is extremely important, but making sure that you are still creating an intimate space that doesn’t feel like a banquet hall is how your event comes to life,” she explained.

So here are some tips for making the most of your venue to have the perfect floor plan for your reception.

Reception Floor Plan

Think flow

Start you reception floor plan with the dance floor and build around it. The dance floor is the heart of the party, from the time you and your new spouse take the stage for your first dance, on through the cake cutting and bouquet toss.

Be sure to leave room for guests to easily move between tables and to reach the dance floor, the bar, photo booths, restrooms, and so on.

Reception Floor Plan

Think sound

The DJ should be next to the dance floor so they can gauge the crowd when they make their selections.

And be sure not to place guest tables too close to the DJ or they’ll have the music blasting in their ears the whole time.

Think view

You and your spouse, of course, will be the center of attention, so make sure the bridal party at the main table is visible to everyone, ideally positioned right next to the dance floor.

“We want the newlyweds to be able to see the dance floor perfectly and will oftentimes not seat anyone directly across from the couple, so that photo and video can get great shots of them enjoying speeches,” Povey explains.

Reception Floor Plan

Think glamour

Finally, to ensure your wedding reception has a jewel of a setting, hold it at downtown Miami’s Historic Alfred I. duPont Building. The stunning 1920s Art Deco architecture and dramatic interiors will provide the perfect setting for your fabulous wedding and reception, as it did for renowned actress, singer, and producer Danielle Brooks, along with so many others.
