There’s nothing worse than a killer celebration getting cut short due to the event venue’s curfew. Whether you’re holding a Las Vegas Night, Pride parties, a bar/bat mitzvah, a wedding reception or bachelor/bachelorette party, the last thing you want is the venue’s equivalent of a lifeguard blowing a whistle at 9 or 10 p.m. hollering, “Everybody out of the pool!”
Or the host sounding like a bartender who, just as the festivities really get rolling, loudly announcing, “Closing time! You don’t have to go home, but you can’t stay here.”
An event curfew can be a real buzzkill just as the party is reaching its peak.
Why the restriction?
A party by its very nature means a large group of people gathering together to have fun. That often means loud music and even louder partygoers who can bother the neighbors.
So many—if not most—cities have a noise ordinance that prevents events from continuing past certain hours: often midnight or 1 a.m., but many cutoffs can be as early as 10 or 11 p.m.
Or the locality’s officials may have concerns about after-hours crime and violence. For example, just this past March, Miami Beach commissioners imposed a curfew (which was lifted in April) because of the “out-of-control” spring breakers.
Some options
Because so many event venues have a curfew, there’s always the after-party fall back, but then you’re faced with transporting everyone to the new location. And even finding such a location (hotel? private home? country club?) without noise or other ordinances can be a challenge.
You can also offer to pay your chosen venue more if they’ll let the party run longer, but they may have staffing issues or local ordinances that prevent its agreeing.
So it’s best to try to find an all-night venue from the beginning. A hotel or restaurant might be able to accommodate you, depending on its location.
A perfect solution
Luckily, Miami is renowned for its vibrant nightlife, so the city is much more forgiving about all-night events. This means you can find a number of venues that may suit your plans.
And if you’re looking for a unique venue in downtown Miami that can help you party till 7 a.m., look no further than the Historic Alfred I. duPont Building. Originally an Art Deco bank vault built by the financier Alfred I. duPont, its extravagant marble walls and floors, huge ballrooms, and ornate decor make an ideal setting for any celebration.
