Walking through a wedding venue to book your big day is very different than the actual day. It’s usually quieter without all the hustle and bustle and is transformed once the decor, florals, and lights are in the space. Whether you’ve looked at a few or are just getting ready to start, it’s important to remember that the wedding venue space can be repurposed to maximize the layout and design of the venue. You just need the right team in place.
Regardless of your style, be it modern and sophisticated, or whimsical and earthy, your venue can really set the tone for the type of wedding design you’re looking to achieve. But, it’s often not limited to what meets the eye as you walk through.
We’re showing you how 3 of our past couples maximized the space at The Historic DuPont Building to create a magical day that was uniquely their own, by repurposing the venue space.
Our couples’ wedding styles ranged from modern glam to bohemian, proving that repurposing your wedding venue is feasible no matter your style.
Different ways to use the venue when your ceremony is in the South Ballroom
They maximized the venue space by repurposing the ceremony location for the reception. After the ceremony was over, their guests made their way to the cocktail hour. And, while guests were mingling and enjoying the evening, the ceremony location was being transformed and prepared for the reception.
In this area, the wedding planner and decor team worked quickly to convert the space into each couple’s’ vision. By repurposing the space, they were able to use the same chairs from the ceremony for the reception. Even allowing them to reuse and repurpose most of the floral design and decor.
For each of these couples, the cocktail hour was located in North Ballroom. This was perfect for allowing the team to effortlessly update the ceremony area for the reception. While guests enjoy dinner in the South Ballroom, the team seamlessly updates the cocktail area for desserts inside the vault.

Regardless of the style or the design of the space, you can easily maximize your wedding venue by repurposing it. It takes having the right team in place to make it happen but is absolutely feasible.
We love how one of our couples turned a portion of the room into a lounge for their guests. Allowing them to mingle while giving them a space to relax with plenty of table space for drinks and hors-d’oeuvres.
If you’re considering repurposing your wedding venue to maximize space, we recommend working with a professional. A wedding planner and/or venue coordinator will help you work through the process and logistics of repurposing a space.
