Wedding cake trends this year range from the simple and classic to anything goes. If it’s edible, you’ll see it at weddings in 2022.
Pressed flowers
In keeping with our current desire to celebrate the natural world, we’re adding touches of nature everywhere, including our wedding cakes.
Pressing edible flowers into the buttercream not only offers a unique pop of color, but also a bit of an informal look for less-structured weddings.
Separate layers
Separating individual layers with acrylic spacers, possibly filled with flowers or candy, or just left as is, results in a stunning statement.
And it’s a huge trend this year at the most elegant weddings.
Individual cakes
Smaller cakes made their debut during the pandemic, and they’re here to stay, according to Brides magazine. Whether a small cake of one or two tiers for the couple to cut, or individual mini-cakes for guests, small is in!
“It’s a great idea to offer your guest their own cake rather than just a slice of cake,” Nicole Redd-McIntosh, owner of Nicole Bakes Cakes, tells Brides.
Including fur babies
Do you have a pet or pets you love and would like to remember at your ceremony? You can have their image custom-painted onto your cake, or use them as cake toppers.
“They have 3D prints of their pets [bought in Esty shops] and have asked us to place this either with the classic couple cake toppers or on one of the tiers with the little guy eating a piece of cake,” Alexis Pascual, owner of Rolling in Dough Bakery in Las Vegas, Nevada, tells the Wedding Wire.
The un-cake
More couples are moving away from the traditional tiered wedding cake into alternatives. One of the popular wedding cake trends is bypassing cake completely and going for personalized wedding cookies.
“We’ve seen a 13 percent increase in searches on Etsy for custom or personalized cookies in the last three months,” Dayna Isom Johnson, trend expert at Etsy and judge on the NBC series “Making It,” tells the Wedding Wire.
And speaking of breaking the mold, have you considered the Historic Alfred I. duPont Building for your nuptials? With its soaring ceilings, marble flooring, and historic elegance, your wedding will be the one people talk about for years afterward.
